'32 Phaeton - The body was bought around 1993-94 from well-known body importer and friend to the hot rodder John Reid, who had brought it in for a customer who, on viewing, thought it too far gone. I paid the princely sum of £450 for it and spent the next couple of years putting it together using mainly stock RHD English running gear and an ex-WD 21 stud crate engine. Fenders have been on and off it many times over the years and it finally received a top in 2005. It was raced in the first ever Flathead Meltdown which cost me a gearbox during a heavy qualifying session! It then took part in a few more of the early Meltdowns, but it has now taken on more of a resto-look so I think it’s racing career is over although never say never!
'32 Coupe – The coupe was originally built by me in 1988 and was used loads but was then sold on in ‘94 when the phaeton came along. I always semi-regretted selling it and was surprised, in 2004, to receive a call from the bloke I sold it to asking if I wanted it back as he was emigrating. I went down for a look and it was still sat in the garage I had delivered it to ten years previously having not been on the road in all that time. A deal was struck and it was mine again. After a quick makeover it ran the Meltdown in 2004 and ’05. It is currently undergoing a major rebuild and will be unchanneled and fully fendered. I’m looking forward to getting it done and running it in the Meltdown again.
Watch this space for more photos of the coupe as the rebuild progresses.
