Jim's roadster doesn't need much in the way of introduction if you live in the UK. Chances are you've seen it somewhere, either at a show, the drags, a reliability run or maybe just out and about. That's because despite the finish on this car being of such a high standard that it picks up trophies everywhere it goes, Jim treats it as a driver. And he never misses the opportunity to abuse it either, as some of the pictures here attest... It was a long time coming but after a fistfull of 13-second timing slips, Jim finally dipped into the twelves during the Hot Rod Drags in September 2006. There's a video of it on Youtube somewhere. This record still stands, though for how much longer...
Want to know just what it takes to push a street-trimmed and bias-ply wearing '32 through the traps at 109mph after just 12.7 seconds? Try a heavily modified French block running a 3.4 bore x 4.475 stroke, giving 325ci. Add a pair of worked-over Motor City Flathead heads, a one-off cam by Crower, ground specifically, plus three Moon Injection units atop a Weiand 142 blower pushing 10lb of boost, and all this equals 345bhp and 402lbft of torque. That ought to do it.
The '32 is a rolling advertisement for Jim's (& Julie's) business, Royal Kustoms, who provide an award winning custom paint and interior service. Gene was impressed. Pics courtesy of Neil @ Retrophoto, Graham Cooke and Keith Harman. Cheers, men. |
